The Institute for Public Policy has been ranked among the top think tanks in Eastern Europe.

The ranking was done based on a survey among experts who evaluated leading think tanks around the world.  It included more than 500 leading think tanks in Eastern Europe (including the majority of post-Soviet countries and Russia).

The results of the survey were published through a press release by the University of Pennsylvania and by the Foreign Policy Magazine, which has published an article written by James McGann, the Deputy Director of the Program Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program.

The Global Go to Think Tank ranking included think tanks studying public policy, economics, security, and the environment.  This is the first ranking of world think tanks.

According to the authors of the Think Tank Index, there are 5 465 think tanks in 170 countries.  They specialize in different areas.  Some of them specialize on the environment; others have wider interests and conduct research from politics to economics and from social policy to health policy.

In North America, there are 1872 thinks tanks; in Western Europe, 1208; in Asia, 653; in Latin America and the Caribbeans, 538; in Eastern Europe (including majority of post-Soviet countries and Russia), 514; in South Africa (including Sub-Saharan Africa), in Africa Middle East and in North Africa, 218; and in Oceania, 38.

The most number of think tanks are in the USA(1777).  In the UK, there are 238; in Germany, 186; in France, 165; in Argentina, 122; in India, 121; in Russia, 107; in Japan, 105; in Canada, 94; and in Italy, 87.

In Kyrgyzstan, there are nine think tanks. However, the ranking mentions only one of them.  In Ukraine, there are 45 think tanks; in Estonia, 15; in Georgia, 14; Lithuania, Armenia and Azerbaijan has 13 in each country; in Belarus there are 12; in Latvia, 9, which is the same as Kyrgyzstan.  In Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, there are 8 in each country; in Tajikistan, 6; and Moldova, 5.

The top 20 think tanks in Eastern Europe includes the Carnegie Moscow Center (Russia), the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (Russia), the International Center for Policy Studies (Ukraine), and the Lithuanian Free Market Institute (Lithuania).  On the 18th place in the list is the Institute for Public Policy (Kyrgyzstan).
